RED CROSS HELPS CARROLL COUNTY RESIDENTS WITHOUT POWER

Baltimore, MD— The American Red Cross of Central Maryland is supporting the Carroll County government in the operation of a shelter to provide a cool respite for those without power in the region. Red Cross volunteers are staffing the shelter, located at the Westminster Senior and Community Center at 125 Stoner Avenue in Westminster, Maryland.

Disaster Action Team members provide essential emergency assistance such as food, clothing and shelter to victims of house fires and natural disasters in Carroll County.

WHAT IS THE RED CROSS DOING IN CARROLL COUNTY?
In 2006 Carrill County Red Cross volunteers and staff...

• Responded to 6 local disasters, including fires and severe weather
• Assisted 9 local families after disasters
• Trained 30 volunteers in emergency response

• Trained 975 persons in first aid and CPR
• Trained 606 persons in aquatics safety skills
• Provided 979 persons with Red Cross disaster preparedness information
