Home Health Aide Training




For individuals who wish to work as home health aides

Students will learn: Skills and knowledge required to provide care to individuals in the home setting. Each component of the course is rooted in six principles of care: privacy, dignity, independence, communication, safety and infection control. Content meets requirements of the Foundation for Hospice and Home Care and OBRA-87.

Location:

Classroom (first 3 weeks of each class) will be located at the Red Cross Headquarters, 4700 Mt. Hope Drive, Baltimore, MD 21215; clinical (last 4 days of class) is located at Charlestown Care Center, 715 Maiden Choice Lane Baltimore, MD 21228.

Prerequisites:
  1. Achieve a satisfactory score on the SRA reading comprehension test prior to registration.
    Time: 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Plan to arrive at 9:15.

  2. Present a negative PPD or chest x-ray at time of registration.
  3. All students must be at least 18 years old. We reserve the right to ask for age verification.
  4. An enrollment agreement must be signed upon registration.

Reading Test: $20.00 nonrefundable
Books: $30.00 nonrefundable

Registration Information:
  1. Advance registration is required for both the reading test and the course and is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  2. Payment of fees is due upon registration, using cash, or money order.
  3. TAKE NOTE OF YOUR COURSE NAME, NUMBER, DATE & LOCATION, then, students may register here, in person (Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.), or by mail.

Certification:
In order to receive a certificate, students must attend all class sessions and arrive on time for each session, pass all skill tests and pass a written knowledge test with a score of at least 80%. A Red Cross Home Health Aide Training Certificate will be issued.

Refund Policy:
Requests for refunds must be received in writing before the course start date. A $25.00 processing fee will be deducted. Anyone requesting a refund after the course has begun through Day 12 of the training will receive a pro-rated refund as follows: There will be no refunds after day 12 of the training and no refunds for students who do not show up for class.
