"We
woke up in the middle of the night and realized that everything we had
was going up in smoke," remembers
E. Kourtesis, a Maryland resident.
Help was soon on the way. The Red Cross rushed to the scene
and found the family a place to stay, helped to replace lost eyeglasses
and medications, provided necessities like soap and toothpaste, and
distributed vouchers for food and clothing. "In the midst of the chaos,
there was a smiling, concerned face," recalls Elizabeth, "an arm I could
lean on and a sense of hope."
Every day, fires and other disasters devastate families.
Last year, the Red Cross provided 3,875 children and adults of Central
Maryland with shelter, food, clothing, and other items needed to get
back on their feet.
It costs the Red Cross an average of $2,500 a day, 365 days
a year to provide disaster relief in our community. Without your support,
this vital response to neighbors in need would not be possible.

THE DAY
LIFESAVER $10,000
Provides emergency relief for four days to victims of fires, floods
and other disasters.
SUPER HERO $7,500
Provides emergency relief for three days including training of Disaster
Action Team volunteers.
HERO $5,000
Provides emergency relief for two days including blankets, food
and replacement medicines.
CHAMPION $2,500
Provides emergency relief for one day including temporary housing and
clothing.
PATRON $1,250
Provides emergency relief for half a day including maintenance service
for emergency vehicles.
SUPPORTER $600
Provides emergency relief including comfort kits with soap, shampoo,
toothpaste and other personal items.
