15 Howard Restaurants Partner with Red Cross for “Dine Out for Disaster Relief," April 14 - 21
April 4, 2008 -- Fifteen Howard County restaurants are partnering with the American Red Cross in April to support the organization’s work in aiding victims of disasters that occur daily in Howard County and in Central Maryland.
Beginning on April 14, on designated days, restaurants across the county from Elkridge to River Hill will donate a percentage of proceeds from participating customers as part of the Red Cross “Dine Out for Disaster Relief” campaign.
In 2007, American Red Cross volunteers in Howard County and Central Maryland helped survivors of 577 local disasters -- including fires, storms, floods, and chemical spills. The Red Cross provided immediate assistance to 1,000 families with food, clothing, shelter, medicine and counseling.
“When disaster struck in our region, Red Cross volunteers were immediately on the scene to help nearly 3,000 men, women and children trying to cope with the sudden loss of homes, belongings or loved ones,” said Ann Heavner, chair of the American Red Cross of Central Maryland’s Howard County District. ”We are extremely grateful to local restaurants for their support of efforts to help their neighbors when they need it most.”
