The Young Professionals of the American Red Cross of Central Maryland (Young Professionals) will celebrate the group’s one year anniversary by hosting A Night for the Red to raise money for the American Red Cross and for survivors of the earthquakes in Haiti. A Night for the Red will be held Saturday, March 27 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the Carriage House of the Evergreen Museum and Library. PNC Bank is the title sponsor of A Night for the Red. The gala is a formal event with a casino theme.
A Night for the Red was the idea of Katherine Pinkard, a Young Professionals member and the Gala’s chair. Pinkard decided to become a Red Cross volunteer after attending several Red Cross events and a tour of the Red Cross Central Maryland Chapter Headquarters. “I never realized how many lives the Red Cross touched and the breadth of its involvement in the U.S. and abroad,” says Pinkard. “I am so excited to be working on our gala! It’s a great way for me to use my experience and skills to contribute to the mission of the group.”
The Red Cross helps disaster victims recover from emergencies and helps people prevent, prepare, and respond to emergencies. The Young Professionals of the American Red Cross of Central Maryland was founded in 2009 to help people recover from the devastating affects of disasters. The mission of the Young Professionals is to cultivate future leaders and supporters of the American Red Cross. Group members carry out this mission by raising money, recruiting new members, and volunteering in the community. During its first year, the Young Professionals hosted networking events, held raffles, ran in the Baltimore Marathon, completed disaster response training, and co-hosted Baltimore’s Pigtown festival. The Young Professionals also helped to raise over $150,000 by volunteering at a telethon to raise money for Haiti.
Media cameras are welcome at A Night for the Red, and members of the Young Professionals of the American Red Cross will be available for interviews during the event.
