Red Cross workers from Central Maryland Assist
Houston Flood Victims

Over 30 Maryland Red Cross workers are currently on the scene in Houston helping to provide food, shelter, and medical and emotional support to hundreds of displaced flood victims.

The death toll stands at 31, with Texas, Louisianna and Florida the hardest hit. Red Cross workers and volunteers, and other local government groups are working hard to ease the recovery process. Each day, more volunteers and donations pour in from the community and across the nation.

Central Maryland's Red Cross Executive Director Assists
Seattle Earthquake Victims

Frank L. Miller, Jr., Executive Director of the Central Maryland Red Cross, will join other volunteers from around the country who are providing disaster relief assistance to victims of the February 28th earthquake.

The quake, which registered an alarming 6.8 on the Richter scale, hit Seattle, Washington, at 10:55 a.m. PST, and was centered about 11 miles northeast of Olympia and 36 miles southwest of Seattle and felt in Salt Lake City, 700 miles away.

Local Red Cross Volunteers Head for Mississippi

Five local disaster relief volunteers have been dispatched to Mississippi in response the recent deadly tornado. Carroll County residents Mary Jane Benstein and Sally Stuber will administer to the needs of the victims of this devastating tornado as a Family Service worker & Mental Health Counselor, providing individual assistance to family members affected by the tornado.

Amber Leaders, Tomika Bates and Cassondra Gordon, members of the Red Cross National Rapid Response Corps, will spend the next three weeks helping Mississippi residents recover from the disaster. Other Red Cross volunteers are on stand-by to provide assistance as needed.
